How the Chase statement is read
- Transactions are grouped in sections: Deposits and Additions, Checks Paid, ATM & Debit Card Withdrawals, Electronic Withdrawals and Fees. Amounts are printed without a sign; the section says whether money came in or went out.
- The Daily Ending Balance table at the end lists balances two per line. It is skipped, so balances are never mistaken for transactions.
- ACH entries are long ("Orig CO Name:Stripe Orig ID:… CO Entry Descr:Transfer Sec:CCD…"). They are shortened to the company and purpose, "Stripe Transfer", and the full text is kept in the memo.
- Card purchases repeat the purchase date and the last four digits of the card ("Card Purchase 11/19 Staples… Card 4821"). Only the merchant is kept as the description.
- A PDF with several months of statements (for example from a records request) is split by statement period. Each month is read and balanced on its own, then combined.
Checked against real Chase business checking statements from 2019 to 2026: eleven statements, every one balanced to the cent. Every release is also tested with a statement that reproduces the Chase layout, so a change elsewhere in the converter can't silently break it.
Where to download Chase statements
- Sign in at chase.com and open the account.
- Choose Statements & documents.
- Pick the statement month and download the PDF. Chase keeps several years of statements online.
Download the original PDF. Statements that were printed and scanned need text recognition, available on paid plans.
What Chase exports itself
Chase's activity download offers spreadsheet (CSV) files and, for many accounts, Quicken and QuickBooks files, but only for recent activity. For older months, the PDF statement is often the only copy.
Importing into QuickBooks
In QuickBooks Online, go to Transactions > Bank transactions, choose Link account > Upload from file, and drop the .qbo file. In QuickBooks Desktop, use File > Utilities > Import > Web Connect Files. Pick the QuickBooks account that matches your Chase account and keep the same account number in every file you convert for it.
