How the Bank of America statement is read
- Deposits and withdrawals are listed in separate sections, with withdrawals printed as negative numbers.
- Checks are listed side by side, two or three per line (date, check number, amount). Each one becomes its own transaction with its check number.
- ACH entries read "COMPANY DES:PURPOSE ID:… INDN:… CO ID:… CCD". They are shortened to the company and purpose, and the full text is kept in the memo.
- Debit card purchases start with CHECKCARD and the purchase date, and end with a long reference number. Only the merchant is kept as the description.
- Keep the Change transfers, online banking payments and wires are kept as separate transactions, with their confirmation numbers moved to the memo.
Checked against real Bank of America checking statements from 2016 to 2021: seven statements, every one balanced to the cent. Every release is also tested with a statement that reproduces the Bank of America layout, so a change elsewhere in the converter can't silently break it.
